I pledge allegiance to the ach'ii (PRINTS AVAILABLE)
After numerous interests in the painting entitled "I pledge allegiance to the ach'ii" I've decided to produce twenty (20) first edition prints which are available for purchase. For the price of $80 you will be the owner of this 24"x36" print which is printed on high quality photographic archival paper. Each print is numbered (1/20, 2/20, 3/20…20/20), titled, signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Your new art piece will go nicely in any Hogan (Navajo word for home).
The original painting is a 24"x36" oil on canvas and is framed with a handmade gold colored wood frame. The painting is a pop culture piece designed to represent the United States flag utilizing food elements commonly used by Navajo people.
There are three parts to the painting to illustrate the three colors of the United States flag.
RED - The red strips are depicted with long strands of raw ach'ii, which is a Navajo dish prepared from the fat of a sheep wrapped in sheep intestine. Traditionally the food item is grilled over an open fire and served preferably with a Navajo tortilla (my preference of course).
WHITE - The white strips are illustrated through the use of white corn, which is a common Navajo food staple. Many Navajo families grow corn, which has a multitude of uses within the Navajo culture.
BLUE - The stars and blue are represented by the use of a Blue Bird flour company seal. The Blue Bird flour is the widely chosen ingredient used to prepare a variety of bread dishes that can be found on any contemporary and tradition Navajo menu.

I reside in Gallup, New Mexico so I plan on having these prints available at the next downtown arts crawl.
